River Plate extended their unbeaten run in the ongoing Libertadores campaign after drawing in Chile last Tuesday in a match that saw eight yellow cards and two red - one for each side.

La Banda took the lead on the stroke of half-time through German Pezzella, but Carlos Palacios equalised for Colo Colo just after the hour mark.

River Plate have never lost when scoring first in the Libertadores, dropping points only once in a 2-2 draw with Nacional.

Marcelo Gallardo, who won the Copa Libertadores twice with the Argentine side in 2015 and 2018, reached the milestone of 100 matches in charge of the competition, the third-highest total behind Luis Cubilla (104) and Gabriel Uribe (116).

River Plate are unbeaten in their last 10 matches in all competitions, their most recent victory coming last Saturday when they beat Boca Juniors 1-0 in the Superclasico in the Argentine Primera Division.

La Banda, who are unbeaten at home to Wednesday's visitors in this competition, winning 4-0 last time out in 2022, will be hoping to repeat that feat and reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2020.

Meanwhile, Colo Colo are still looking for their first quarter-final win in the competition since beating Universidad Catolica 3-1 in 1997.

However, they have won just one of their four away Libertadores games this season - a 2-1 victory over Junior FC in the round of 16.

After losing away to Fluminense on 10 April, Jorge Almiron's men went on a five-month, 13-match unbeaten run before a 3-0 defeat to Magallanes in the Chilean Cup.

On Tuesday, Eterno Campeon will be in danger of going three games without a win for the first time since April this year.
