Atletico Mineiro, despite conceding a goal in the first half for the first time in this year's Libertadores, managed to equalize shortly before the 60-minute mark. Gabriel Milito is optimistic about his team’s chances, given their strong performance at home, where they won all three of their group stage matches and are unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions at Arena MRV.
During the group stage, Mineiro proved difficult to handle offensively at home, scoring a total of 9 goals and conceding just 3 against their three opponents. They have a track record of advancing from the round of 16 when drawing the first leg, as seen in 2022 when they eliminated Emelec with a 2-1 aggregate score after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
San Lorenzo, on the other hand, started strong in the first leg but couldn't maintain their advantage. They have scored five of their seven goals in this tournament within the first 25 minutes of play, but last Tuesday marked their second failure to win after scoring first.
San Lorenzo has struggled on the road in this year’s Libertadores, failing to score in their three away group stage matches. Their last away win in a competitive fixture was back in July against Gimnasia, and they have not won a second-leg knockout match since their 2014 Copa Libertadores victory.
