Two clubs that have been thriving in the Champions League this season meet on Wednesday night when Borussia Dortmund host Barcelona.
Continental clashes between these two teams are rare, and Dortmund will be looking for their first competitive win over Barca at Signal Iduna Park.
They've been plagued by inconsistency under new coach Nuri Sahin, with much of their best work this season coming in Europe. Dortmund have benefited from a tough fixture list, but they've still produced impressive performances against Dinamo Zagreb, Celtic and Club Brugge. The hosts currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga after dropping further points at the weekend.
Barcelona also failed to win last time out, drawing 2-2 at Real Betis, and there are signs of fatigue creeping into Hansi Flick's side after an excellent start to the season. Game-changers are in short supply from the bench, with Flick currently relying on 11-12 players. They sit top of La Liga because Real Madrid have played a game less.
Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona H2H Record (All Games)
Borussia Dortmund: 0 wins
Barcelona: 2 wins
Draws: 2
Last meeting: Barcelona 3-1 Borussia Dortmund (27 November 2019) - Champions League
Dortmund have a defensive problem after Niklas Sule suffered an ankle injury in the draw at Gladbach. Sule joins summer signing Waldemar Anton on the sidelines as he's struggling with a muscle problem.
Their absence could force Emre Can into a starting berth at centre-back.
Maximiliano Beier was another casualty at the weekend and is unlikely to feature against Barca, but both Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt could be in contention after recovering from their respective setbacks.
There's good news on the injury front for the visitors as Ronald Araujo has been included in the squad for the trip to Dortmund after a lengthy lay-off.The Uruguay international won't be an immediate recall for Flick's side, but his imminent return is a huge boost for Barca.
There are no new concerns for Flick, who is still without Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marc Bernal, Ansu Fati and Andreas Christensen. Despite the draw at Betis, there are unlikely to be many changes to the Barca XI for Wednesday's continental clash.
