Barcelona sweating on fresh Lamine Yamal ankle injury

Barcelona are uncertain about Lamine Yamal's fitness after the Spanish teenager was forced off during the Catalan side' 1-0 loss to Leganes.

Yamal suffered an ankle injury last month during Barcelona's clash against Red Star Belgrade and missed almost three weeks of action before returning during Hansi Flick's side's 2-1 loss against Las Palmas. The 17-year-old was slowly but surely returning to his usual form but has suffered yet another injury to the same ankle against Leganes at Estadi Olimpic, and could be set for another stint on the sidelines.

The Golden Boy 2024 winner received a strong tackle in the 16th minute and twisted his already suspect ankle. However, Yamal was able to continue on and stayed on the field until he was unable to continue in the 75th minute. As per MD, Barcelona are now worried about Yamal's fitness for the rest of the calendar year.

According to Diario AS, Yamal is scheduled for further medical tests on Monday to evaluate his right ankle’s condition. The fresh injury is particularly concerning as it follows a previous grade one syndesmosis injury to the same ankle sustained.

Hansi Flick's hopes of having Yamal in the starting lineup are slimmed by the fact that the final game of 2024, a high-stakes contest against Atletico Madrid, is less than a week away. He might not be able to recover in time for this crucial match, and the Catalan side are preparing for that scenario.
