Mac Allister was on the scoresheet for the world and South American champions as they beat Chile 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier but was withdrawn with a knock late in the game. Scaloni says the 25-year-old did not take part in training the day after, sparking concern among the Liverpool fanbase.
Scaloni described Mac Allister as in "a lot of pain" and that he had been "overloaded" in recent months. The former Brighton maestro helped his country to back-to-back Copa America titles this summer before being thrown straight back into action by Arne Slot on Merseyside. It remains unclear whether the accomplished midfielder will be available for the match against Colombia on Tuesday.
Mac Allister played in all but one of Argentina's Copa America matches in the US this summer. He grabbed two assists en route to the final as La Albiceleste asserted their dominance once again over the continent.
The update on Mac Allister does not sound too optimistic and may cause him to withdraw from the squad and return to Liverpool. The Reds face Nottingham Forest on September 14 but there is no indication whether the midfielder will be fit and available.
