Jordan return to action on Thursday looking to continue their fine run of form in 2024, having won eight and lost just one of their last 10 matches.

After a slow start in the second round of Asian World Cup qualifying at the end of last year, they entered the AFC Asian Cup and progressed to the final with knockout victories over Iraq, Tajikistan and South Korea, only to fall at the final hurdle with a 3-1 defeat to Qatar in February.

They then returned to qualifying in March and June with a single point from two games, topping the group and booking their passage to the next stage with four successive wins, including 3-0 and 7-0 victories over Pakistan and a 3-0 win over Tajikistan to book a trip to Saudi Arabia.

In Hussein Ammouta's final game in charge, they came from behind to beat the hosts 2-1 in Riyadh, thanks to goals from Ali Olwan and Noor Al-Rawabdeh, before taking on North Korea in a friendly at the end of August under new coach Jamal Sellami.

Now, after a goalless draw and a 2-1 win to kick off life under their new boss, Jordan return to competitive action with plenty of momentum and will be looking to pick up where they left off on Thursday as they continue their quest for a first-ever World Cup appearance with a win to kick off their third-round group campaign on Thursday.

The visitors will also be looking to get off to a strong start in their third-round group on Thursday after a less comfortable run through the previous stage.

Seeking their first World Cup appearance since 1982 after failing to reach the third round in their last campaign, Kuwait entered the qualifiers in the second round and once again looked to be on the back foot, recording one win and three defeats in their first four matches around the turn of the year.

After the latter two, a pair of defeats to Qatar in March, Al-Azraq returned for their final two matches in June and defied the odds to finish second, first taking a point from a goalless draw away to India and then a 1-0 home win over Afghanistan thanks to Eid Al Rashedi's 81st-minute strike.

The triumph also saw the end of Rui Bento's reign, and Al-Azraq will be hoping to get off to a flying start in their first game under Juan Antonio Pizzi on Thursday.
