In a nail-biting match, Brazil and Uruguay played to a 1-1 draw in the 12th round of the South American qualifiers. Uruguay had just beaten Colombia at the Centenario Stadium, while Brazil and Venezuela played out a 1-1 draw with one more player on the pitch.

In the first half, both teams were on the attack and on the defensive. In the 14th minute, Vinicius received a pass from Rafinha and entered the penalty area, then fell to the ground under the defence of Oliveira. The referee said there was no foul and no penalty was awarded.

Just five minutes later, Rafinha's shot looked like it might find the back of Rochette's goal, but it was just offside. Valverde responded with a clever free kick, putting the Brazilian goalkeeper to the test. Both teams had their chances but the first half ended goalless.

In the 10th minute of the second half, Maximiliano Araujo took the ball, dribbled around the edge of the penalty area to draw the defence, and then passed the ball to Valverde. The Real Madrid midfielder handled the ball really well, got past Bruno Guimaraes' defence, shot with his right foot and scored a world-class goal that made the Brazilian home stadium fall silent!

The Brazilian team, who hadn't been able to make headway, then made some substitutions and adjustments in the hope of making some changes in the battle situation. Brazil even managed to score a goal in the 60th minute of the game, with Gerson equalising with a left-foot shot. He shot the ball straight into the bottom corner with his left foot, without stopping it, catching Sergio Rochette off guard.

In the next few games, Brazil kept trying to score against Rochette, but the Uruguayan goalkeeper was very focused and didn't give Brazil any more chances. The score was 1-1 until the end, with Brazil tying Uruguay 1-1.

After this game, Marcelo Bielsa's team has 20 points, which puts them in second place, five points behind Argentina. They'll be having a direct dialogue in the next game, and Uruguay will be facing the world champion, Argentina, at home. Meanwhile, Brazil is in fifth place with 18 points and will be hosting Colombia in the next round.
