Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson issued an apology to his teammates and fans after receiving his second red card in four matches, which contributed to the team's 3-1 loss to Flamengo in the Club World Cup.
Pedro Neto gave Maresca's side a lead in the 13th minute in Philadelphia, but the game turned in the second half when Bruno Henrique equalized, and Danilo put the Brazilian team ahead.
Jackson, who had just entered as a substitute, made a reckless challenge on Ayrton Lucas, resulting in a straight red card, before Wallace Yan scored a late third goal.
On Instagram, Jackson wrote: "I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down."
He added: "Another red card... and honestly, I'm so angry at myself. I work very hard every day to help the team and not put us in this kind of situation. I still don't fully understand how it happened. But one thing is clear: it wasn't intentional. Just a football moment that went the wrong way."
"No excuses. I take full responsibility. I'll reflect, I'll grow, and I'll come back stronger for the badge and for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry."
Flamengo now tops Group D and is in a strong position to claim first place, while Chelsea will face Esperance Sportive de Tunis on Wednesday without Jackson, who will serve at least a one-game suspension.
He could face a longer ban if FIFA decides to review the incident.
