Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory over Boca Juniors, advancing to the Club World Cup round of 16 with a game still to play. Harry Kane gave Bayern an early lead, while Miguel Merentiel equalized for Boca midway through the second half. Michael Olise's late goal clinched a well-deserved win.

Bayern's lineup featured Manuel Neuer in goal and a defensive line of Konrad Laimer, Jonathan Tah, Josip Stanišić, and Raphaël Guerreiro. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka held the midfield, supported by Serge Gnabry, Olise, and Kingsley Coman, with Kane leading the attack. Substitutes Aleksandar Pavlović, Jamal Musiala, Dayot Upamecano, and Leroy Sané replaced Goretzka, Gnabry, Guerreiro, and Coman in the second half, before Musiala was substituted due to injury, with Thomas Müller coming on.

Kane on target

Bayern dominated from the start, and Olise soon scored, but the goal was disallowed after Gnabry impeded goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin. Coman fired over the bar, and Bayern took the lead when Laimer's cross was cleared to Kane, who slotted it into the bottom corner.

An Olise pass found Gnabry, who missed an open goal. Neuer made two saves against Kevin Zenon, while Marchesin denied Olise at the other end. Bayern earned several free-kicks, but Marchesin saved Olise's effort, and Kane's curling shot just went over the bar.

Olise seals it

Olise had a shot saved, and a Kane attempt was blocked, but Boca leveled the score on a counterattack when Merentiel evaded Tah and Stanišić before beating Neuer.

Vincent Kompany's side regained the lead with ten minutes remaining, as Kane set up Olise to smash home the winner. Laimer beat Marchesin after a one-two with Müller, but the goal was ruled offside. Sané's pass to Olise was intercepted, and Olise later hit the side-netting, as Bayern secured a tight but well-earned victory.

The Bavarians will face Benfica on Tuesday to compete for the top spot in their group.
