Palmeiras beat Al Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup after play was suspended for around 40 minutes in the second half due to severe weather.
Referee Anthony Taylor stopped the game in the 62^(nd) minute as dark clouds appeared over the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The players had already taken a cooling break midway through the first half due to temperatures reaching 31°C, but the heat also threatened to bring a lightning storm, prompting Taylor to instruct the players to leave the field.
A message on the stadium screens told supporters to "leave the seating bowl area and take shelter inside the stadium due to severe weather in the area".
Shortly after half-time, the Brazilian club broke the deadlock when Al Ahly defender Achraf Dari headed a free kick into his own net.
This was the first goal scored by any team in Group A, following 257 minutes of action without a goal.
Palmeiras did not have to wait long to score again, with substitute José López doubling their advantage ten minutes later.
In another Group A match, Inter Miami beat Porto 2–1. Palmeiras and Inter Miami now have four points each and will face each other on Monday. A draw will be enough for both sides to qualify.
