Juventus swept aside Al Ain to record a 5-0 victory in their first ever FIFA Club World Cup match. They achieved this against a side who had conceded just one goal in their previous seven games.
Juventus looked strong from the outset and took the lead just 11 minutes in, following a well-executed move that saw Randal Kolo Muani rise to head Alberto Costa’s cross past Rui Patricio.
Although Al Ain showed intent, they struggled to test Michele Di Gregorio, conceding again when Francisco Conceição jinked his way across the six-yard box and shot in off Ramy Rabia.
Shortly afterwards, Khéphren Thuram had a shot blocked. The Frenchman then passed to Kenan Yıldız, who created enough space to fire an audacious shot from distance that went in off the post just after the half-hour mark.
Juventus continued to play free-flowing football, with Yildiz hitting the side netting before Conceição saw his attempt deflected behind for a corner, which resulted in Lloyd Kelly heading wide. This play produced a fourth goal just before half-time, when Kolo Muani raced behind to reach Thuram’s pass and finish calmly.
Al Ain demonstrated their continued competitiveness when a marginal offside call denied Rabia a goal just two minutes after the restart. Di Gregorio then tipped Kodjo Laba’s strike over the crossbar before Weston McKennie fired an attempt wildly off target and Costa’s shot was blocked at the other end.
However, Juventus got back on the scoresheet in the 58^(th) minute when Conceição effortlessly glided past Kouame Kouadio and beat Patrício. The debutant goalkeeper then rushed out to deny Kolo Muani a hat-trick following more impressive play from Conceição.
Douglas Luiz struck the post after hitting the side netting, as Juventus recorded a third consecutive competitive victory for the first time since February, when they won four games in a row — a positive omen ahead of their contest with Wydad AC.
The Bianconeri also ended Al Ain’s seven-game winning streak, and Al Zaeem’s task won’t get any easier when they face Manchester City next.
