Today, the Jamaica men's basketball team officially announced that NBA champion and current Clippers player Norman Powell has joined the team.


The caption reads: "We are very honored to welcome NBA champion Norman Powell to the Jamaican men's national basketball team. As an experienced professional player, Powell has excellent scoring ability, tenacious defense and championship genes. His joining will bring a new level of excellence to the team. Norman's parents are Jamaicans, and he grew up in an environment full of island pride. From Lincoln High School to UCLA, and then to the NBA, Norman has overcome all obstacles and won the championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019, and played a key role in many playoffs. In the 2024-25 regular season, Powell played in 60 games, averaging 21.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game, with a three-point shooting percentage of 41.8%, a career high in scoring; in the playoffs, Powell played in 7 games, averaging 16 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
