Grealish is likely to leave Manchester City this summer, but his high salary is a transfer obstacle, and the most likely next home among Premier League teams is Newcastle.
According to British media reports, after Manchester City and Grealish reached a consensus on leaving the team, financial issues became the main remaining obstacle. Both parties need to make a compromise: Grealish's weekly salary at Manchester City is 300,000 pounds, and few clubs in the world can match it.
Even if Grealish accepts a significant pay cut, the possibility of returning to Aston Villa permanently is still very small. Villa is facing a serious salary problem.
In terms of salary affordability, Newcastle may be the biggest potential next home (still needs to cut wages), but its transfer fee under the Financial Fair Play Act (PSR) is limited.
This brings the loan plan back into view, which is not the ideal choice for both parties, but may be the most feasible option. This move may require Manchester City to bear most of the salary or charge a high loan fee, thereby providing other clubs with trading possibilities.
