The Craig Bellamy revolution continued in Cardiff as Wales extended their unbeaten run to nine matches with a comfortable 3–0 victory over Liechtenstein.

Having dropped points against North Macedonia in their last group game, the hosts knew they could not afford to slip up if they were to qualify for back-to-back World Cups for the first time.

They got off to a strong start, with Harry Wilson sending one mishit strike wide before Neco Williams forced Benjamin Büchel into his first save with a 25-yard drive. The goalkeeper was also called upon to deny Kieffer Moore shortly afterwards, dashing off his line to block at point-blank range.

However, Craig Bellamy’s side were thwarted time and again, with Büchel pouncing to his right in full stretch to make a fantastic save from Brennan Johnson and brilliantly palming an acrobatic overhead kick from Ethan Ampadu to safety.

However, the former Bournemouth stopper was powerless when Joe Rodon finally made it 1–0 after 39 minutes, meeting a corner with a bullet header that arrowed into the top corner.

There was anticipation that the floodgates would open from there, but the finishing was wayward, as evidenced by Moore nodding wide at the back post.

Wilson finally scored the second when he met Jay Dasilva’s whipped cross with a composed downward header. It was 3–0 minutes later when Moore converted into an empty net after Büchel had made a splendid save from Jordan James’s volley.

It was no more than the Dragons deserved as they dismantled an opponent who failed to register a single shot throughout the entire game.

From then on, it was plain sailing, with David Brooks coming close to a fourth when he stabbed the ball into the side netting after a lung-busting run into the box.

This result puts Wales in first place in Group J ahead of their crucial trip to Belgium on Monday. Meanwhile, Liechtenstein are bottom of the group, having conceded eight goals across their three fixtures.
