Manchester United want to open talks with Brentford over the signing of Bryan Mbeumo but could find themselves forking out another hefty weekly wage.
Mbeumo wants to secure a major wage increase if he moves from Brentford to United this summer, according to The Times. The Cameroon international currently earns £50,000 a week at the Gtech Community Stadium but could demand five times as much as that at Old Trafford.
Mbeumo has developed into one of the Premier League's most consistent forwards in recent years and became the Bees' talisman after the departure of Ivan Toney, scoring 20 goals and contributing another seven assists in 38 Premier League appearances last season. Brentford are thought to want around £60m for the 25-year-old and United may be able to offer him the wages he wants if they can get rid of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, two of their biggest earners, this summer.
Newcastle have also been credited with an interest but Mbeumo is thought to favour a move to United, who have already wrapped up a deal for Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
United are expected to open formal talks with Brentford over a deal for Mbeumo soon, with no official contact made just yet. If that deal goes through, the speedster would add proven Premier League quality to Ruben Amorim's squad that could only finish 15th in the table.
