This year's transfer window, slightly altered due to the Club World Cup, opens on June 1 in the Premier League, German Bundesliga, French Ligue 1, Spanish LaLiga, and Italian Serie A for 10 days before closing and reopening on June 16.
However, clubs have been actively planning their transfers following a demanding season. With significant moves last summer, will we see similar activity again?
Budget: Arsenal has some financial flexibility under profit and sustainability rules (PSR), and co-chairman Josh Kroenke has stated that 'We plan to invest,' giving the Gunners both the resources and determination to make bold moves.
What does the team need? A striker is a priority, as it was last summer and in January, and remains essential now. The club also aims to bolster midfield, add a wide attacker, and secure a backup goalkeeper.
Who are the major targets? Real Sociedad's midfielder Martín Zubimendi is set to be the first signing, with Arsenal planning to activate his €60m release clause. They maintain interest in RB Leipzig's striker Benjamin Sesko, influenced by the new sporting director Andrea Berta. Sporting CP's Viktor Gyökeres and Newcastle's Alexander Isak are also on the shortlist, though the latter would be tough to acquire. Athletic Club's winger Nico Williams tops the list for wide players, while Real Madrid's Rodrygo is a potential but costly option. Espanyol's Joan García is targeted as David Raya's backup, and Ajax's teenage center-back Jorrel Hato has been heavily scouted.
Who could be leaving? Jorginho and Kieran Tierney will depart as their contracts expire at the end of June. Thomas Partey's future is uncertain with his deal ending then, and Oleksandr Zinchenko is no longer needed. Raheem Sterling and Neto will return to Chelsea and Bournemouth, respectively, after their loans. There is talk of Real Madrid pursuing star center-back William Saliba, and Jakub Kiwior has drawn interest from Italian clubs like Juventus. Albert Sambi Lokonga, Reiss Nelson, Marquinhos, and Fabio Vieira, who were on loan, are likely to be available for transfer.
Any new contracts? There is optimism that Bukayo Saka will sign a long-term deal, reflecting his status with a salary increase to match top Premier League earners. The club is pursuing extensions for Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, and Gabriel Martinelli, and Mikel Arteta has confirmed interest in retaining Partey. Young talents Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, who featured in the first team, are in negotiations for rewards. Leandro Trossard is nearing an extension with one year left on his current deal.
