Chelsea has reached an agreement to sign striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

The club will activate Delap's £30m release clause in his contract, following Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League.

Chelsea will now negotiate personal terms with the player's representatives, with these discussions anticipated to be straightforward before a medical examination.

Champions League football is not the primary factor in Delap's decision to join Chelsea. Factors such as the team's playing style, a youthful squad, playing opportunities, potential for long-term trophy challenges, and existing relationships at the club have influenced his choice.

Delap attended Chelsea's Conference League final victory against Real Betis and was notably impressed by the second-half display.

Delap is familiar with members of the Chelsea squad, having previously played with Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer at Manchester City.

The 22-year-old has prior experience working with Chelsea's head coach Enzo Maresca and recruitment co-director Joe Shields during their time in the North West.

Chelsea plans to add more attacking players this summer, in preparation for their participation in the Club World Cup in the United States. The club is targeting wingers and has a list of nine to ten potential names.

Delap aligns with Chelsea's desired striker profile, and the total deal cost, including wages, is a key factor. The club's recruitment approach focuses on young, developing talents signed to long-term, incentive-based contracts.

In connection with the Delap transfer, Ipswich has shown interest in Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, with his name discussed in related negotiations.

Ipswich has been monitoring Guiu for some time, as he matches the type of forward they aim to recruit as a replacement for Delap.
