Sporting CP claimed the 2025 Taça de Portugal with a dramatic 3-1 extra-time win over arch-rivals Benfica on Sunday, May 25 at the Estádio Nacional do Jamor in Oeiras.
With the triumph, the Lions secured their 18th Portuguese Cup title and completed a long-awaited domestic double—their first since 2002.
The final was intense from the start, but it was Benfica who struck first. Orkun Kökçü opened the scoring in the 47th minute, giving the Eagles the lead. Just as it seemed the trophy was heading to the red side of Lisbon, Renato Sanches conceded a stoppage-time penalty. Viktor Gyökeres coolly converted in the 90+10 minute, leveling the match at 1-1 and forcing extra time.
Extra time saw Sporting dominate both physically and tactically. In the 99th minute, Conrad Harder put the Lions ahead with a well-placed finish. As Benfica pushed for an equalizer, Francisco Trincão struck in the 120+1 minute, putting the result beyond doubt.
