Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 away on Sunday, securing eighth place in the Premier League standings and leaving the Europa League winners with a disappointing end to their celebrations.
Tottenham, still riding high from their midweek Europa League victory against Manchester United, took an early lead via a Dominic Solanke penalty in the 17th minute after Mats Wieffer fouled Mathys Tel.
Brighton equalized six minutes into the second half through Jack Hinshelwood, who then scored again with a clever back-heel in the 64th minute. Matt O'Riley converted a penalty after Yves Bissouma fouled Diego Gomez, and Gomez sealed the win with a stunning goal in added time.
Tottenham finished the season in 17th place, their lowest league position in 21 years, with 38 points marking their worst Premier League tally to date. Despite this, home fans focused on their recent European success.
