Real Sociedad vs Girona

Match preview

Manager Imanol Alguacil will be perplexed by his team's failure to score against Celta Vigo, given that they created eight significant chances — whereas they had averaged fewer than two in each of their previous 35 La Liga matches.

Real Sociedad have failed to score in any of their last four games, conceding 10 in their past six.

The White and Blues are now five points behind Rayo Vallecano and, with a clash against Real Madrid awaiting them on the final day of the season on 24 May, qualifying for the Conference League looks unlikely.

Alguacil's side go into the match having failed to win any of their last six games, suffering four defeats in that period.

Real Sociedad's home form has been poor, with the club winning one, losing four and drawing two of their last seven outings at Reale

Arena.

Meanwhile, Girona beat Real Valladolid 1-0 on 13 May thanks to Cristhian Stuani's 80^(th)-minute winner from a set piece. This took them joint top of the division's set-piece scoring charts with 13 goals.

The visitors have scored just three goals in their last four matches, though they should be credited for conceding only two goals in those matches.

Head coach Michel was in charge when his team lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad in La Liga on 19 October, and their last victory against them came in February 2010. Since then, they have lost three times and drawn six.

The Blanquivermells have won two of their last three matches 1-0, losing once in that time, though they drew one and lost three of their previous four.

While Girona have won two and lost one of their last four away matches, they were winless in their previous six, losing five times.

Team News

Real Sociedad will be without the suspended full-back Aihen Muñoz, which may lead to a back four being selected featuring Hamari Traoré, Aritz Elustondo, Igor Zubeldia and Javi López.

Midfield regular Martín Zubimendi is set to play, and he could be joined in the middle of the pitch by Pablo Marín.

With striker Orri Oskarsson unavailable, Mikel Oyarzabal may be tasked with leading the attack alongside Takefusa Kubo, Brais Mendez and Sergio Gomez.

Girona, meanwhile, will have to contend with injuries to attackers Bryan Gil, Gabriel Misehouy and Donny van de Beek. Perhaps striker Abel Ruiz will be supported in the final third by Viktor Tsygankov, Portu and Yaser Asprilla.

Oriol Romeu and Arthur may form a double pivot in front of centre-backs Juanpe and David López.
