PSG made it easy in the final round of Ligue 1, as they faced mid-table side Auxerre at the Parc des Princes on Saturday. Paris beat relegated Montpellier 4-1 in their penultimate league match, while Christophe Pellissier's side drew 1-1 with Nantes.

PSG's main players were delighted to find themselves in their second Champions League final in six years, and while they must pass a test comparable to Inter Milan to finally conquer the continent, PSG's prospects proved to be very impressive against Montpellier. With an average age of just 21 years and 251 days, Luis Enrique's starting XI was the youngest in Ligue 1 history last weekend, but Montpellier, who are about to be promoted to Ligue 2, faced little resistance at the Stade des Mosson, as the defending champions showed their skills.

18-year-old Seny Mayulu broke the deadlock just before half-time. Then one of PSG's "old guards", 23-year-old Gonzalo Ramos, led the team's second-half onslaught, scoring a hat-trick in 16 minutes to make Tanguy Koulibaly's goal meaningless. A few weeks ago, PSG were crowned champions with six games left in the league, but they have rightly turned their attention away from domestic competition - a bit of a shame for fans who are eager for the team to have an unbeaten season - as they had failed to win three consecutive top-flight games before defeating Montpellier.

However, Luis Enrique's team has rediscovered their domestic magic at the perfect time, as Saturday's Ligue 1 final will be played in two finals in a week, first against Reims in the French Cup on May 24, and then to Munich to compete for the European championship with Inter Milan. A draw or win by PSG would see the hosts set a new record for total points in a season for 18 teams in Ligue 1 - their current tally of 81 games was set by Saint-Etienne in 1969-70, and defeat at Auxerre should not cause their supporters to lose sleep.

Auxerre was immediately relegated back to the second division after winning promotion last season, while AJA consolidated its position at the top of the French league after winning the Ligue 2 title in 2023-24. This is Christophe Pelissier's third year in charge, and the 59-year-old coach has guided Auxerre to a commendable 42 points from 33 games, although Lens is seven points clear of the visitors, who are ninth on Saturday, but have no hope of finishing in the top half. Nevertheless, AJA will end up no worse than 12th in Ligue 1, although they will not finish the 2024-25 season as they aim to start the 2025-26 campaign having won just one of their last five games following last weekend’s low-scoring stalemate with Nantes.

Gaetan Perrin’s opener in that game at least means the visitors have scored in each of their last nine games in France’s top flight, but they are winless in five games against PSG, who on paper should comfortably end their Ligue 1 campaign on a high.

Paris Saint-Germain predicted starting lineup:

Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves; Douei, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia

Auxerre predicted starting lineup:

Leon; Hoever, Akpa, Diomande, Jubal, Mensah; Perrin, Owusu, Masengo, Traore; Sinayoko
