Bayern Munich fear Real Madrid may hi-jack deal to sign Wirtz

After an emotional farewell to Bayer Leverkusen, it seems only a matter of time before Xabi Alonso is appointed as the next Real Madrid head coach.

The Spanish tactician will make a number of changes to the team, which could even influence some of Leverkusen's stars to join the Bernabeu.

One of them could be Florian Wirtz, who has been rumored to be ready to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

However, according to Kicker, Bayern Munich are increasingly worried that Real Madrid will step in and hijack their proposed transfer plans for Wirtz. Reports earlier this week claimed that the 21-year-old Germany international has reached an agreement with Bayern and even signed a preliminary contract for a transfer in 2024 or 2025.

But Leverkusen's position remains firm. Club officials continue to insist that no agreement has been signed and that they have a close relationship with Wirtz's team.

In fact, Leverkusen hope to extend Wirtz's contract beyond 2027 - although they are not blind to the growing interest from the outside world.

Real Madrid's sporting project - coupled with the presence of Alonso - may be more attractive than Bayern's, especially for a player who has already flourished under the Spanish coach.

From Bayern's perspective, the silence from Wirtz's side is striking, and it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga unfolds as time goes on.
