Mikel Arteta's options for Tuesday's crucial Champions League semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain have been strengthened, as Mikel Merino and Ben White are both available for selection.

The pair missed last week's match against Crystal Palace but have returned to training with the squad at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, ahead of Arsenal's first final-four clash in the competition since 2009. This gives Arteta a wealth of choices in defense, midfield, and attack for the game against the French champions.

Merino's return is particularly valuable, having scored in three of his last four home appearances at Emirates Stadium, especially with Thomas Partey suspended after receiving his third booking in the competition during Arsenal's thrilling 2-1 victory over Real Madrid two weeks ago. White's availability is also key, as Arteta confirmed that Riccardo Calafiori remains sidelined due to a knee injury sustained on international duty last month.

"Ben White and Mikel Merino were able to train, and we'll see if they can start tomorrow," Arteta stated in his pre-match press conference. "Riccardo Calafiori is still not fit. We unfortunately lost Thomas Partey late in the game against Real Madrid due to suspension."

Whoever is selected to play in north London, Arteta has urged them to perform at their peak, just as they did in both legs against the holders Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

After observing his squad in training over the past few days, Arteta believes they are prepared to rise to the occasion and embrace the challenge of competing on the biggest stage, with the world watching to see if this is the year Arsenal claims the Champions League trophy.

"The individuals must step up in these moments," he added. "It's a game for big players to stand out and make a difference.

"We need to feel ready to go out there and express ourselves. This is the time to say: 'This is who we are as a team and as individuals, and I'm going to give my absolute best to make it happen.' Play with that mindset and push your limits. How far do I want to go?

"We are so fortunate. We've put so much effort in to reach this position. We've earned it through our hard work and enthusiasm, overcoming many challenges to compete at the highest level for 10 months. So, let's be present, live the moment, and enjoy it."
