Fiorentina have confirmed that full-back Dodo has had surgery to remove his appendix after coming down with appendicitis in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Brazilian, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent weeks, will miss his side’s upcoming match against Empoli in Serie A on Sunday and is also a major doubt for the first leg of the Conference League semi-final against Real Betis on Thursday.

Fiorentina have confirmed that the procedure was ‘perfectly successful’ and that more details will be provided once Dodo is discharged.

“ACF Fiorentina announced that the footballer Cordeiro Dos Santos Domilson had an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy this afternoon,” a statement on the club website read.

“The surgical procedure, which was required after the developments of the clinical situation in the early hours of the morning, was perfectly successful.

“More information will be provided at the time of the player’s discharge from hospital.”

The 26-year-old appears to have been in good spirits despite requiring surgery, joking with fans earlier in the day that: ‘for someone who came back from a cruciate in four months, appendicitis is nothing’.

With Dodo out of action for the upcoming Serie A match against Empoli, and with Fiorentina lacking a natural replacement at right wing-back, central midfielder Michael Folrunsho is the leading candidate to start out wide on Sunday.
