Paris Saint-Germain's hopes of becoming the first side to complete a Ligue 1 season unbeaten were dashed at the Parc des Princes on Friday, as Nice inflicted their first defeat of the campaign with a 3-1 win to boost their own Champions League ambitions.
PSG, who clinched the title earlier this month, remain top of Ligue 1 with 78 points, while Nice drop to fourth on 54.
The home side dominated the opening half hour, creating chance after chance, but it was the visitors who took the lead through Morgan Sanson, making his first start of the season, when he clinically finished Badredine Bouanani's through ball in the 35th minute.
The lead lasted just six minutes when Fabian Ruiz equalised with a superb half-volley, but any thoughts of PSG's dominance were dashed 22 seconds into the second half when Sanson scored his second, volleying the ball home from close range.
Having scored from their only two shots on target, the visitors made it 3-1 when Youssouf Ndayishimiye headed home a free-kick in the 70th minute. PSG, who face Premier League side Arsenal away in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, enjoyed 75% of the possession and created twice as many chances, but were frustrated by their own poor finishing and some inspired goalkeeping from Marcin Bulka.
With the clock ticking past 90 minutes and seven minutes of stoppage time added on, Bulka produced a superb reflex save to deny Goncalo Ramos and then made another fine stop to deny Vitinha's shot from the edge of the area, celebrating loudly after each save.
The Parisians continued to press forward, but Nice defended tenaciously and held on to give their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League a significant boost.
PSG coach Luis Enrique said before the game that he would be happy to lose to Nice if it meant reaching the Champions League final, and he was confident after his side's 30-game unbeaten run in the league came to an end.
"We attacked in many different ways, they defended incredibly well... we would love to play the same kind of match against Arsenal and have 30 chances but we have to congratulate Nice and we will do our best to support each other," he told broadcaster DAZN.
