Besiktas vs Goztepe
Tupras Stadium
Apr 3, 2025 at 6.45pm UK
Goztepe will visit Tupras Stadium for their Turkish Cup quarterfinal clash with Defending Turkish Cup champions Besiktas on Thursday, 3 April 2025.
Besiktas had a tough win over Galatasaray in the league last week. One player from each side was sent off. Joao Mario's two assists helped the team win, ending Galatasaray's unbeaten streak in the Turkish Super League this season. Although the title hopes are slim, the victory came at the right time as Solskjaer's team just suffered three consecutive defeats.
Goztepe has only achieved 3 draws and 1 loss in the league in the past month. The team's top scorer Romulo's penalty helped the team draw with Trabzonspor. They are currently ranked seventh in the league with 10 wins, 8 draws and 9 losses.
Besiktas has won five of the last six encounters between the two sides, three of which ended 2-1. In the last match against Goztepe, Besiktas lost 2-4 at home despite leading by two goals in the first ten minutes.
Shortly after that game, former Besiktas coach Van Bronckhorst was fired. Besiktas' current head coach is former Manchester United player Solskjaer. Under the Norwegian's leadership, Besiktas' form has improved this year, losing only one game in January and February and winning all three Turkish Cup group matches.
Besiktas have five wins out of six recent home games, making the team to beat here. The visitors have just one win from their last six trips (D2, L3), but with seven goals from their three recent away games, It would appear that the outcome of this match is still going to be a very competitive one.
Ahead of their Turkiye Kupasi quarterfinal, Besiktas are expected to remain without Emrecan Terzi and Baktiyor Zaynutdinov due to injuries. Semih Kilicsoy is also suspended for this encounter. As for Goztepe,Ahmed Ildiz is expected to miss this clash after picking up an injury in the stalemate at Trabzonspor last weekend.
Besiktas are in a tight battle to finish in the 3-4 spots of the Turkish Super Lig, which puts a question mark over their European qualification next season. This tournament could, therefore, be their best chance, as the winner gets a spot in the Europa League play-off round. Besiktas will certainly have their hopes high, as their recent home record of five wins from six matches is daunting for Goztepe to breach.
