Cameroon vs Libya

Match preview

Cameroon's quest for a ninth FIFA World Cup appeared to have hit a snag after the fifth matchday when they were held to a 0-0 draw by minnows Eswatini. Despite dominating much of the game, the Indomitable Lions were unable to find a way past the hosts due to poor finishing in front of goal and a resolute Eswatini defence.

Returning to the ground where they claimed their two victories in the qualifying series, Marc Brys' side were looking for a third as they looked to reclaim top spot. However, it will be important for the hosts to get off to a quick start, having won both of their home matches in the qualifying series.

The hosts will be wary of a well-drilled Libya side who held them to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture on 21 November.

Elsewhere, Libya began their campaign under new coach Aliou Cisse with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Angola on Thursday. After a largely uneventful first half, the hosts went ahead in the 74th minute, but Fred's stoppage-time strike denied the Mediterranean Knights their third win of the qualifying campaign.

The result leaves the visitors in third place on eight points, one behind Tuesday's opponents and two behind group leaders Cape Verde.

Having lost just one of their five matches so far, Cisse's side will go into the clash full of confidence.

However, Libya's defence will be put to the test by a Cameroonian side who have scored seven goals in two matches in front of their home fans, and who have lost all three times they have visited the Central African nation.

Team News

Marc Brys has no new injury concerns ahead of Tuesday's clash with Libya and is likely to name an unchanged side to face the North Africans.

Vincent Aboubakar, who is one goal away from equalling Roger Milla's record of 43 international goals, is expected to lead the line with Bryan Mbeumo, Frank Magri and Christian Bassogogog providing support.

With Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa sidelined by a muscle strain, Carlos Baleba is likely to continue in the heart of midfield alongside Martin Hongla.

Meanwhile, Monaco star Moatasem Al-Musrati has turned down a call-up and will not be available for the visitors in Cameroon.

Daniel Elfadli is also absent from the squad, but Abdallah Dagou is available to step up in his absence.
