A Raul Jimenez brace lifted Mexico to their first CONCACAF Nations League trophy with a 2-1 win over Panama in Sunday's finale.

After scoring less than a minute into their semi-final against Canada, Mexico needed just a few more minutes to open the scoring in the final.

Once again it was Raul Jimenez who found the net in the eighth minute to give his side a 1-0 lead. However, Panama were not to be denied and eventually fought back, with Coco Carrasquilla's goal just before half-time sending the teams into the locker room level.

It remained that way throughout the rest of the game, with Panama withstanding waves of Mexican attacks. They finally succumbed in the harshest of ways when Jose Cordoba was adjudged to have handballed in the area, allowing Jimenez to step up and slot home the spot-kick to lift the trophy for Mexico.

The victory marked Mexico's first-ever CONCACAF Nations League title. Each of the previous three editions had been won by the USA men's national team, who had beaten Mexico in two of those finals.

The USMNT finished fourth in this year's tournament, losing to Canada in the third-place match before Sunday's final.

Both teams will now look ahead to this summer's Gold Cup, having already met in the final of that tournament. Mexico beat Panama 1-0 at the same venue in 2023, lifting the trophy thanks to an 88th-minute goal from Santi Gimenez.
