Not the best preparation before a decisive European match. Opposed Wednesday March 12 (6:45 p.m.) to Losc for the return leg of the Champions League round of 16 (1-1 in the first leg), Borussia Dortmund is in full crisis. The club not only lost 1-0 against Augsburg for the 25th day of the Bundesliga, but it also saw its locker room fly into pieces.
According to Bild, Niko Kovac flew into a rage after the defeat. The Croatian coach allegedly lectured his players for more than half an hour, under the eyes of managers Sebastian Kehl and Lars Ricken. Sanctions, including fines and additional exercises in training, were reportedly issued.
Brandt and Gittens out against Lille?
The climate of tension is said to have worsened with an altercation that occurred in training between Julian Brandt and Jamie Gittens. BVB is said to have taken a radical decision by suspending the two players. This could result in their absence on the pitch at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium for the rematch against Lille. The two attacking midfielders were starters in the first leg, but also against Augsburg.
"We have four days to pull ourselves together, reset ourselves, to be able to show a much better performance," Niko Kovac said in a press conference after the weekend's defeat in the championship. "We played well in the two previous Bundesliga games, as well as in the first half against Lille. That's also why I have hope. That's the life of a footballer or a coach. You still have to try to see the positive in defeat," he also said.
