
PSG’s Luís Campos left fuming by Konaté’s unpunished tackle

“It’s a red card and a penalty” exclaimed Luís Campos as the referees returned to the dressing room at half-time. The Paris Saint-Germain sporting director was referencing an incident in the 25th minute when Ibrahima Konaté (25) made contact with Bradley Barcola (22), who was closing in on goal.
The collision between the pair, which left Campos calling for the sanction, went unpunished by referee Davide Massa. VAR did not recommend an on-field review meant that the decision not to award a free-kick stood. Konaté himself addressed the incident in a post-match interview with Canal Plus, stating that he did not apply “power” and saying that it was “soft”.
“I just put my arm and that is all,” added the Liverpool defender. The game remained at 11 versus 11 and Liverpool went on to win the game 1-0 thanks to a late winner from Harvey Elliott. It means that Liverpool head back to Anfield for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against PSG with a lead to protect.
But the Konaté incident will remain a point of contention for Les Parisiens. Campos was left furious, as images broadcast by Canal Plus showed, the sporting director repeatedly claiming, and with growing anger with each repetition, that Konaté should have been sent off and PSG should have been awarded a penalty. Speaking to the broadcaster post-match, Luis Enrique did not wish to comment on the incident.
