Alex Crook has reported exclusively for TalkSport that Chelsea are interested in signing a new goalkeeper in the upcoming summer transfer window, with a move for Southampton's Aaron Ramsdale. The former Arsenal shot-stopper left the Gunners for Southampton after new signing David Raya became the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

Ramsdale has impressed for Southampton, who are fighting to avoid relegation from the Premier League. The Blues have been linked with a move for the player, but a deal could only be completed if Kepa Arrizabalaga makes a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge. Robert Sanchez has not been performing well and has come under fire from the supporters. Enzo Maresca is therefore looking for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Aaron Ramsdale is a top-class goalkeeper, athletic, confident and proven in the Premier League. He's got quick reflexes, can make impressive saves and isn't afraid to command his area. His time at Arsenal has shown that he can handle pressure and keep clean sheets against big teams, while his time at Southampton has shown that he's resilient when the defence is shaky.

Off the pitch, Ramsdale has a big personality - humble yet fiery - that could lift Chelsea's dressing room. If Chelsea were to sign him, he'd bring stability between the sticks, challenge the current crop of goalkeepers and add a vocal leader. At 26, he's young enough to develop into a long-term asset.

Ramsdale has conceded 38 goals and kept 2 clean sheets in 19 Premier League appearances in the 2024/2025 season. This means that when Ramsdale is in goal, his team concedes a goal every 45 minutes. Aaron Ramsdale's goal average is 2 goals conceded per 90 minutes.

However, Chelsea face stiff competition for his services from Leeds United. They are keen to sign an alternative to Illan Meslier. It will be interesting to see if Ramsdale, who played for Chelsea's arch-rivals Arsenal, decides to make the move to Stamford Bridge if the Blues make an offer.

However, if the deal goes through, it will be a great one for the Blues. They will gain a reliable presence in front of goal that will further enhance their squad.
