The Houston Astros are about to enter a season in which there will be major changes. Third baseman Alex Bregman has departed for the Boston Red Sox, leaving Jose Altuve as the last remaining member of the 2017 World Series team.
Interestingly enough though, Altuve himself is preparing for a drastic change. He has been a staple at second base for many years, but appears to be shifting to the outfield.
In fact, Altuve had a nice gift for a young fan, as he gave them his old infield glove.
"Jose Altuve’s glove. He also told me he’s “officially” an outfielder because he gave his infield glove to a kid," Julia Morales tweeted.
This is certainly a nice gift for a fan to receive, but it also does reveal that big changes are happening with Altuve.
Houston planned on giving him reps in left field, and it appears they are now fully committed to that plan. Altuve himself also seems to be on board with the idea.
This could leave the Astros in the market for another infielder. After they lost out on Bregman, they circled back to the St. Louis Cardinals about Nolan Arenado.
Should they add somebody like Arenado, they would have to move Isaac Paredes to second base and have Altuve in the outfield full-time.
Even if they do not add another infielder, Houston appears committed to making Altuve their next left fielder.
At the very least though, Altuve gave a fan a nice gift. But it does hint that the switch to the outfield may be imminent.
