Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has confirmed that Dan Burn was replaced after picking up a groin injury during his side's 3-2 FA Cup victory at Birmingham.
Dan Burn was replaced in the 56th minute by Fabian Schar. Bruno Guimaraes who also started the game was replaced at half time and Sandro Tonali was introduced in his place.
Asked if the changes were tactical after the game, Howe said:
"Bruno at half-time yes," he told the BBC.
"Dan no. We were forced to take Dan off at that stage of the game, it looked like [he had injured] his groin. Fingers crossed it’s not too bad."
Burn joins a growing list of injuries for Newcastle ahead of a crucial run of games after reaching their second Carabao Cup final in three years after beating Arsenal across two legs in the semi-final. Howe hopes to avoid their season being derailed like last term by a growing list of absentees.
"In the last couple of weeks, we’ve seemed to pick up a couple [of injuries]. We’re at such a key stage of the season and that would be the last thing we need to derail us with such a small squad. That’s a little bit of a concern for us.
"We missed Sven Botman, we missed Anthony Gordon and now Dan [Burn] looks like he’s picked up something.
"Last season we had big numbers of players out and that disrupted our rhythm throughout the season."
