Kylian Mbappé spoke to the media the day before the Champions League clash against Salzburg at the Santiago Bernabéu (Wednesday, 9:00pm CET): "I'm feeling very well. I've been on good form for a month and a half. I'm trying to help the team as much as I can and I'm going into tomorrow's game with total confidence. I'm confident in my game, in the team and in all the Madrid fans who will be at the stadium."
"I'm calm. When you're a player like me, with what was expected of me, it's normal for people to talk. They can talk badly, but for me it's not personal. In the world of football, when you play well they speak well and when you don't, they speak badly. You have to be calm and focused on your game and what you can improve on. I knew I could change the situation and I have. I'm very happy to help my team."
Difficult moments
"I'm a player who always wants to do more, I'm looking for the best for me and my team. When you see that it's not happening, it affects you. Playing here is a great opportunity. I knew it could happen, but it has changed my mentality. I could only do better and here I am, proving that I'm a player with great quality and that I can help the team."
"It's more mental, telling myself that now I have to do more. I was fine physically and with the group, but I knew I had to do more. I had to change the situation because I didn't come here to play badly. Now I have to keep it going because playing well for a month is easy and at Real Madrid you always have to play well."
What is it like to play for Real Madrid?
"It feels like a dream. Every day that I come to Valdebebas and I have the honour of playing at the Bernabéu I know that I'm living a dream. I've been happy since day one, even when I wasn't playing well. I knew that it wasn't the fault of the club or the madridistas, but mine. I have won two titles, we're playing very well now and we have a lot to win in this second half of the season."
Madrid pressure
"I'm the kind of player who needs that pressure of feeling you always have to do more. In the Celta game people booed a little bit, but that's normal. At a club like Madrid you have to win every game. When you don't win a Spanish Super Cup final it's possible to get booed and that's normal. Our job is to change that and make all the madridistas happy. On Sunday we started badly and we had enough character and style of play to change the situation. That's what the madridistas want."
Message to the fans
"Simple. We need to be united. We can understand that people might boo and we don't have a problem with that, but we need to be united. We have a lot of things to do, we have many titles to win and we need all the madridistas to win and write a new chapter in the great history of Real Madrid."
Problems at the start and criticism in France
"It was a time of adaptation to the group. I thought a lot about how to do things and when you think so much you don't play well. There is nothing wrong when it comes to the national team. The country is like that, I can't change what happens in France. I can understand the criticism and everything that happens. I'm looking forward to going back in March and trying to qualify for the Nations League semi-final. My love for the national team hasn't changed."
Is there room for improvement?
"I aim to play my best game for Madrid in every game. I hope my best game is tomorrow. I played well against Las Palmas, but I have the feeling that I can do better because I have it in my legs. I have confidence in my quality and that of my team-mates. We can do more."
Change in character
"I've never been a shy player, but when you come to a team like Real Madrid, who won everything last season, you have to come with humility. I can't come demanding to a team that has just won the Champions League. That's not how football works. I'm not going to set myself a number of goals. If I can score 40, fine, and if I can score more, even better. The goal is to score every chance I get. If I get three, I'll score all three, that's always the way it is."
What was last week like?
"We were sad. We lost a final. It was a sad defeat, but with the feeling that we have a lot to do. There are still a lot of titles to win. It was very important to win the cup game at home against Celta, which was not easy to win. It was a bad game, but in the end we changed our mentality quickly. That's what we've done and we've won the last few games. We hope to keep it up tomorrow."
