On 16 January 2025, Leicester City officially announced the signing of 25-year-old defender Woyo Koulibaly from Serie A Parma, with the two sides signing a four-and-a-half-year contract.
In this deal, the club spent about 3 million pounds. This is also the first signing since Leicester City's new coach Van Nistelrooy took office. The Dutch coach also said that this deal gave him more options in defense. Because since his first victory as coach, the club's situation has been declining. After losing 0-2 to Crystal Palace last night, it has fallen into the relegation zone.
After making his debut for Le Havre in August 2019, Koulibaly became one of the most promising young defenders in France and moved to Parma in July 2021. Koulibaly has played 88 games for the team since joining Parma.
Known for his explosive pace and tenacious tackling as well as his attacking ability, he continued to improve in Italy and performed well, eventually winning the Serie B title in the 2023/24 season.
Koulibaly has made 14 appearances for I Gialloblu in Serie A this season and will link up with his new teammates later this week in preparation for Saturday afternoon's Premier League match at home to Fulham.
The right-back's addition is timely due to Ricardo Pereira's injury. As Van Nistelrooy's lineup is mostly dependent on James Justin, Van Nistelrooy now has a stronger squad depth to help the club escape the bottom three.
