Brighton got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they thrashed Norwich 4-0 to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Seagulls had failed to win any of their previous eight games, six of which ended in draws, but it was a different story at Carrow Road as they broke the deadlock against their Championship hosts.

Two goals from Georginio Rutter late in the first half set the Premier League side on course for a comfortable victory, before Julio Enciso and substitute Solly March struck after the break to underline the gulf between the two sides.

Norwich started well and almost took the lead on 15 minutes when Amankwah Forson, the goalscoring hero of last week's dramatic win over Coventry, went close from 25 yards.

But the Premier League visitors began to take control and Rutter had two efforts blocked before finally putting his side ahead eight minutes before the break.

With the striker lurking at the back post, fellow Dutchman Joel Veltman's inch-perfect cross from the right was met by a powerful header from close range by George Long.

Rutter doubled his and Brighton's tally in the final minute of the opening period with a little help from home defender Callum Doyle.

Yankuba Minteh set up the chance with a quick break through the middle and a precise pass, and although Rutter's shot looked on target, it took a big deflection off Doyle to beat the 'keeper.

Brighton's third goal of the game came just before the hour mark and put them in complete control.

A slip from half-time substitute Brad Hills allowed Enciso to gain possession and burst into the area before beating Long from a tight angle with a low shot inside the far post.

March then produced a moment of magic to make it 4-0 on 74 minutes, curling the ball home in spectacular style after being picked out by fellow substitute Brajan Gruda on the right.Replays suggested March had scored from an offside position, but in the absence of VAR the goal stood.

With the game well and truly over, the Canaries brought on key striker Josh Sargent in the closing stages after a lengthy injury lay-off, but it was the only bright spot on a bleak afternoon.
