Burnley have announced the signing of right-back Oliver Sonne from Danish Superliga side Silkeborg for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old has put pen to paper over a four-and-a-half-year deal at Turf Moor and becomes the Clarets' first signing of the January window, which officially opens on Wednesday.
“I’m super excited to be here and experience the club and the facilities, it’s mind-blowing," said the new recruit.
“There are a lot of reasons I joined this football club. The big one is that it’s a massive club with great ambitions.
“The manager is amazing. He has this aura around him and it’s easy to tell he’s a really nice guy and made a really good first impression.
“I see an environment here where I can develop as a person and a player, and get some really good years being one of the main guys in the squad, scoring goals and getting assists.
“The ambition is to go back up to the Premier League and I will fight to make that happen.”
Sonne played for several club's Academies as a youngster, including Danish giants Copenhagen and Køge.
He returned to Køge in the summer of 2019 and made more than 30 appearances before heading to Silkeborg a couple of years later following their promotion to the top flight.
The 24-year-old made his international debut for Peru earlier this year and has also been included in the squad for World Cup qualifiers against the likes of Argentina and Brazil.
Sonne scored the winner in the Danish Cup final in May as Silkeborg overcame AGF and now bolsters Scott Parker's squad heading into the second half of the Championship season.
The Clarets, who currently sit third in the table, are back at Turf Moor on Wednesday afternoon against Stoke City as they aim to build on a positive run of results over the Christmas period.
