Harry Kane returned from injury as Bayern Munich asserted their authority at the top of the Bundesliga in commanding style, thrashing fourth-placed RB Leipzig 5-1 on Friday in a match that featured two goals in the opening two minutes for the first time in the league's history.
Kane suffered a thigh injury against Borussia Dortmund last month.
Bayern, who lost their first league match of the season to Mainz last week, produced a dominant performance against a Leipzig side that struggled to find any attacking momentum.
Bayern top the table on 36 points, seven clear of Bayer Leverkusen, who travel to Freiburg on Saturday. Eintracht Frankfurt are third on 27 points, ahead of Leipzig on goal difference.
It is the 26th time Bayern have topped the table at Christmas, having won the title on 23 of the previous 25 occasions.
The game got off to a remarkable start when Kane's neat backheel released Michael Olise, who crossed for the onrushing Jamal Musiala to slot home after 28 seconds.
Leipzig responded almost immediately when Loïs Openda broke down the right and his cross was swept home by Benjamin Sesco - the first time in Bundesliga history that two goals have been scored in the opening two minutes.
Bayern dominated the rest of the game and added a second in the 25th minute when former Leipzig man Konrad Laimar scored his first Bayern goal, sidefooting in a volley from Olise's clever cross.
Joshua Kimmich's trademark long-range strike on 36 minutes gave the hosts a deserved 3-1 half-time lead as Leipzig failed to find the back of the net.
The visitors showed more attacking intent in the second half, but were unable to threaten as Bayern continued to create chances.
Olise curled just wide, Kane fired a powerful shot too close to goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi and Leroy Sané shot wide before latching on to Alphonso Davies' through ball to score the fourth goal on 75 minutes.
Two minutes later, Davies headed home the fifth from Kimmich's perfect cross.
It was the end of a miserable night for Leipzig and the final round of the Bundesliga for both teams this year. Bayern's next Bundesliga game is on 11 January when they travel to Mönchengladbach. While Leipzig will play Werder Bremen at home.
