The long-awaited General Meeting of Tenerife did not disappoint anyone. There was a surprise and, from the night of December 17, there will be a new organizational chart in the Board of Directors of the blue and white entity. José Miguel Garrido Cristo, who arrived at the meeting as the largest shareholder, is the great loser after the union of the Tenerife businessman Rayco García Cabrera, who will take the reins of the blue and white entity, with large shareholders such as former president Miguel Concepción, Amid Achi and Conrado González.
The night began with the vote for the dismissal of counselor Juan Guerrero and general director Santiago Pozas, Garrido's executive arms in the sporting and economic fields, respectively. The shareholders of the so-called 'union', the pact that had brought Garrido to govern the club for two years, abstained from the vote. In fact, the departure of both was approved by 42% of votes in favor, 38% of votes against and 20 percent of abstentions. The agreement between them established that everyone had to support any proposal made by Garrido, but this matter was not, as such, a proposal from the Madrid businessman, so they obtained the 'legal loophole' to abstain and promote the new 'status quo' of the club.
The goodbye of Guerrero and Pozas was accompanied by that of Alba Aula, who had resigned as councilor several months ago. In their place, the former blue and white footballer Ayoze García, Octavio Cabrera and Rayco García Cabrera, who, at 38 years old, will lead Tenerife from today, were appointed new directors this Tuesday.
“I'm not going to let you down" – Rayco García assured when he spoke at the final part of the General Meeting – even if I am going to be the youngest president in the history of the club. My duty as a blue and white player, as a director and as a Tenerife fan is to do "things are going well," said the Tenerife businessman who has made his fortune in Saudi Arabia.
The new head of Tenerife also recognized that the most important moment of his life “was the day this club called me to join their quarry. I'm not doing badly in my business life. I have spent eight million euros to make this possible and I have no Arab sheikh behind me at all. Now we need a big Tenerife where everyone feels important.”
Finally, the future blue and white president also wanted to send a message to the squad. “Tenerife is much more than what is being experienced this season. The players are not alone and we are going to show it to them,” he concluded.
