Pep Guardiola has been a big part of Man City's recent success, but there have been rumours about his future for a while now.
If he stays, the Catalan has a "virtually impossible" task ahead of him. Equalling an unwanted feat for only the second time in his career recently might also have made it more difficult to come to an agreement.
Guardiola is a perfectionist, which is why... Nothing less than the best seems good enough for a man who changed the face of football at Barcelona and then Bayern Munich. He even proved the critics wrong by managing to do it in the Premier League too.
Guardiola's City teams have set the bar high in the Premier League. Only Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool has managed to stop them from making it seven English top-flight titles in a row.
Guardiola has made his decision. City still hold the record for the longest winning streak in the Premier League, so the news that he's agreed to stay on is welcome.
The Football Insider says we can expect an official announcement soon to confirm that Guardiola will sign a one-year extension, taking him to the end of the 2025/26 season.
At that point, there are good reasons for him to move on, not least because his influence on the team might be seen to be waning after so long in charge.
Klopp left Liverpool when he saw things weren't going to change. And Pep has nothing left to prove in Manchester.
The sooner we get the announcement, the quicker we can get back to focusing on what's happening on the pitch.
