Rodri Hernández won his first Ballon d’Or at the Theatre de Châtelet in Paris on October 28...but only just, it has been revealed. During a ceremony boycotted by Champions League winners Real Madrid, the Manchester City midfielder was voted the best player in the world between August 2023 and July 2024. ‘France Football,’ the French magazine that presents the award, has revealed the Spaniard pipped Vinicius Junior to the prize by just 41 points.
When will the voting for the 2024 Ballon d’Or be revealed?
On Saturday (November 9), the selections of each of the 100 journalists from around the world who voted will be revealed.
Ahead of the full release, we know Rodri received a total of 1,170 points, with Vinicius coming in a close second with 1,129. Two more Real Madrid players, Jude Bellingham (3rd) and Dani Carvajal (4th), followed, with Erling Haaland fifth and Kylian Mbappé sixth.
Who voted in the 2024 Ballon d’Or?
The voting for the 2024 Ballon d’Or was carried out as follows. 100 journalists - one each from the top 100 nations in FIFA’s world ranking - awarded their top 10 players 15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point respectively. The trophy was then awarded to the player who earned the highest number of points.
