Erling Haaland has revealed that he is starting to "grow up" after it was revealed that he is set to become a father for the first time.
Haaland revealed earlier this week that his girlfriend, Isabell Haugseng Johansen, is pregnant by celebrating a record-breaking night with Norway by putting the ball under his shirt and sucking his thumb. Norway beat Slovenia 3-0 and in the process and Haaland scored a brace, becoming Norway's all-time record goal-scorer with 34 goals in just 36 caps.
After setting the record, Haaland was presented with a commemorative gift by his team-mates, and was encouraged to make a speech. The Manchester City striker made reference to the fact that he and his partner are expecting, claiming that he is finally growing up at the age of 24.
Haaland told his team-mates: "Thank you everybody. It is, of course, a big day for me. I have taken the record. It's huge, and I would like to thank everybody, the federation, the staff, and all the players. As I said, it's a big day, I'm also becoming a father now, so I'm starting to grow up now! It's amazing, I enjoy the time with everybody here, so we go again. We are on a good path now and I like it so thank you very much."
Haaland is likely to set a goal-scoring record that cannot be reached at international level; Norway face Austria this weekend, giving the City star a chance to extend his lead at the top of the rankings.
