What Man City 115 charges fallout could look like as wait goes on

The wait goes on for a verdict on the Manchester City charges case.
A decision is expected to arrive soon but we are still none the wiser on when that will arrive or what the outcome will be. City have stressed throughout the process their confidence in their case. The Premier League have alleged serious financial wrongdoing over multiple years, which would be met with a major punishment if they have been able to prove City's guilt before the tribunal.
Whichever way the outcome goes, the result will have huge implications for City or the Premier League. Here's the latest news .
Six guarantees if City beat charges
The charges verdict is coming. Repeat: the charges verdict is coming. Nobody knows exactly how or when, which is why chancers have been speculating for weeks that it is imminent.
Whatever else you can say about the Premier League and Manchester City, and whether for better or worse, they really have both excelled at keeping all details of this private arbitration out of anyone's sight. But logic and a bit of educated guesswork will tell you that it won't be far off.
Pep Guardiola should never be taken too accurately in these kind of things, but safe to say when he said last month that the verdict would be in a month he won't have been too far off. And as judgement day approaches, so the possibilities come closer.
City could be chucked out of the league or handed a massive points deduction, permanently placing an asterisk over their successes over the last 10 years. Or they could be fully vindicated, picking up 115 victories to leave the authority of the Premier League a smouldering pile of ruin.
Somewhere in the middle is more likely, and it will hinge on whether the major charges relating to nine years of misrepresenting finances are proven. If they are, the worst possible punishments are in play for City but if all they are found guilty of is not co-operating with the investigation then it will have embarrassed the Premier League.
What Manchester City could get
City could be set to win back millions from the Premier League if the 115 verdict lands in their favour. However, they are unlikely to be able to counter-sue or take on other parties even with a victory.
Much has been said about the potential penalties for City should they be found to have committed the most serious allegations they have been accused of by the Premier League in a case that has been open for more than two years. A three-man panel heard evidence from both sides in late-2024 and their decision is expected soon.
Talk of relegation or expulsion from the league or an enormous points deduction all capture imaginations, and will be wanted by fans of most clubs who have suffered at the hands of City over the past decade.
However, with the club insisting on their innocence from the start and having cleared their name at the Court of Arbitration for Sport when UEFA brought similar claims in 2020, there should also be acknowledgement of what comes next if the Blues are victorious again.
Timeline unclear
Pep Guardiola said in February that the charges decision could arrive within a month. And while we are still awaiting the verdict, the general consensus is the news will soon break.
It might be this week, it might be next month, but a decision cannot be too far away, even if very little is been given away by either side.
Former City financial advisor Stefan Borson has explained just how watertight both sides have been on ensuring no information or hints have come into the public domain.
Speaking to Football Insider, Borson said: "What you've got is a situation where it might happen at any point. Something that's very significant, not just to the future of football, but to the future of Manchester City employees.
"Because you would think that, if a lot of this stuff goes against City, then there would have to be some adjustments to City's cost base which, as we know from what's happened at United, can involve real people and real jobs. I don't think it's been handled well in that respect.
"I can tell you from lots of conversations I've had over the last week, nobody knows.
"This is a very well-kept secret, and nobody has got any indication of definitively when it's coming. Nobody believes that it's close because of things they've heard.
"It will just drop. It doesn't feel like the best way of doing things from the Premier League and City's perspective, but that's the process we have."
