After ending their 24-year unbeaten run at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi with a 1-0 defeat to Angola in their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, the Black Stars were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Niger in their second match.
Alidu Seidu gave Ghana the lead on the stroke of half-time, but despite dominating possession the Black Stars failed to build on their advantage, which ultimately cost them when Oumar Sako equalised for Niger in the 81st minute.
Otto Addo's side now sit third in Group F with just one point, making their two matches against Sudan this window crucial to their AFCON qualification campaign, with only two games remaining.
Having qualified for each of the last 10 AFCONs since missing out in 2004, failure to qualify for the 2025 edition would be a major blow for the Black Stars, but they will be confident going into Thursday's clash as they are unbeaten at home to Sudan, recording four wins and a draw in five such games.
After a 1-0 win over Niger in their Group F opener, Sudan went down 2-1 to Angola in their second match of the qualifying campaign.
The defeat ended the Falcons of Jediane's four-match unbeaten run in competitive matches, a run that included victories over Congo DR, Mauritania and South Sudan in qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The result leaves James Kwesi Appiah's side second in the group with three points, which puts them in a good position ahead of their double-header with Ghana.
Sudan had won two straight away matches - against South Sudan and Mauritania in the World Cup qualifiers - before losing to Angola in their last outing.
The Falcons of Jediane, led by former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, will be hoping to improve on the goalless draw in an AFCON qualifier away to Ghana in 2010.
Thomas Partey, Joseph Paintsil, Kingsley Schindler and Osman Ibrahim have all withdrawn from Ghana's initial squad due to injury.
Abu Francis, Jonas Adjei Adjetey, Michael Baidoo and Ibrahim Sadick have been called up as replacements following the withdrawal of the original quartet.
Athletic Bilbao striker Inaki Williams, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo, West Ham's Mohammed Kudus and Leicester City's Abdul Fatawu are expected to make up the attacking quartet.
Former Al Hilal star Eid Moghaddam and Al Merreikh goalkeeper Ahmed Peter return to the Sudanese squad for the game.
Abo Eisa and Mustafa Karshom have scored a goal each for the visitors in these AFCON qualifiers, but centre-forward Mohamed Abdelrahman will be looking to get on the scoresheet on Thursday.
Ghana possible starting lineup:
Ati-Zigi; Seidu, Salisu, Mumin, Lamptey; Samed, Ashimeru; Fatawu, Kudus, Semenyo; Ayew
Sudan possible starting lineup:
Abou; Agab, Koko, Karshoum, Khamis, Abuaagla, Khidir; Eisa, Omer, Thierry; Abdelrahman
