It looks like France will be without Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe for the upcoming Nations League, and French fans are not happy about it.

Despite Kylian Mbappe's return to action in the Champions League match against Lille, he has not been selected for France's 26-man squad. Head coach Didier Deschamps believes he is not ready and needs more rest. But French fans are not convinced and have criticized Mbappe's absence as irresponsible.

Fans of the French national team are disappointed that Mbappe has prioritized Real Madrid over the national team, despite being one of the team's most senior players and the team's captain. Fabian Bonnell, who represents the main French fan group Irresistibles Français, told L'Equipe that he was disappointed and said the 25-year-old was not really the team's captain.

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding about the captaincy appointment starting in 2023. At the time, Deschamps bypassed Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, who had more experience in the team and was well-liked by players and fans, and gave the captaincy to Mbappe.

Mbappe, who took over the captain's armband, has not played well so far, and Griezmann, who lost the captain's competition, may feel a little frustrated. Not being respected and given the status he deserves may be an important reason why Griezmann announced his withdrawal from the national team last week.

"What impressed us this week was that the real captain left, Antoine Griezmann, who was knighted by the fans, left," Bonnell wrote in his L'Equipe column.

"We want to know if the choice of captain is correct, but in this case, I don't know. Something went wrong and we just lost a role model.

But at this year's European Cup, neither Mbappe nor Griezmann gave a performance that was up to scratch. The French team was lacking in creativity and offensive power without them. Deschamps' team needs to show what it's made of now that Griezmann and Mbappe are out. They'll be up against Israel and Belgium in the Nations League group stage, which could be a real test for them.
