Man Utd would owe Erik ten Hag an incredible amount of money if they sack him

Manchester United's humbling defeat at home to Tottenham on Sunday has put Ten Hag's job at risk, despite signing a one-year extension in the summer. The Dutchman will be given the Porto and Aston Villa games to prove his worth at Old Trafford as it would cost £17.5 million ($23.4m) to tear up his contract, GOAL can report. Ten Hag would have been owed around £10m ($13.4) if he was dismissed this past summer.
The Red Devils have picked up just seven points from their first six Premier League matches this season, leaving them drifting away from the top teams already. It is one of Manchester United's worst starts to a season in recent years and it is not surprising to see fans beginning to turn on their head coach.
Ten Hag has overseen some pretty damning defeats during his tenure, including a 7-0 loss to Liverpool in 2023. He spent nearly £200m ($267m) this summer but looks to have taken a step backwards following their FA Cup triumph in May.
There is no time to fret for Ten Hag and he must quickly start preparing for the biggest week in his managerial career. The Red Devils visit Porto on Thursday before travelling to Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday.
