Hull City return to action on Saturday looking to make it two wins in a row in the Championship after a difficult start to the season under new boss Tim Walter.
The Tigers, who are looking to make another push for the play-offs under their new boss, began their campaign with three consecutive draws in the second tier, a run that has now seen them go five games without a win.
A visit to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United before the international break ended in a 2-0 defeat at Elland Road, and on their return to action in September, Walter's men met Sheffield United and lost by the same scoreline, with Gustavo Hamer and Sam McCallum netting for the visitors either side of the break.
With the pressure mounting around the MKM Stadium, the Tigers last visited Stoke City on Friday and picked up a crucial first win under their German boss, despite trailing by the hour mark when Kasey Palmer's penalty was saved to level the scores before Regan Slater's 77th-minute opener and Ben Wilmot's own goal doubled the lead.
Hull City will be relieved to have picked up their first three points at this early stage of the Championship season, and will be hoping for a second successive win under Walter on Saturday.
They will be up against a visiting side who will be under caretaker management following the sacking of Erol Bulut on Saturday.
Having guided Cardiff City to a 12th-placed finish last time out, Bulut was sacked at the weekend with the Welsh side bottom of the Championship and having taken just one point from their opening six games.
That point came in a 1-1 draw with rivals Swansea City in August, but since then the Bluebirds have lost three in a row in the league and four in all competitions, starting with a 5-3 EFL Cup defeat to Southampton and a 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough in the second tier before the international break.
A 1-0 away defeat to Derby County and a 2-0 home defeat to Leeds United on Saturday, with Largie Ramazani and Joel Piroe netting for the visitors after Joel Bagan's early red card, prompted the club's hierarchy to make a change on Sunday, with Omer Riza taking temporary charge.
Now, desperate to put an end to their poor start to the season, Cardiff City travel to Yorkshire in search of their first win of the campaign in seven attempts.
Tim Walter is likely to name a similar starting XI to the one that secured a first win of the season against Stoke City last time out, with Dogukan Sinik, Ryan Longman and Charlie Hughes all rested.
However, Regan Slater and Liam Millar's performances off the bench in that game put them firmly in contention for a starting berth, and they could get their chance from the outset, with Millar hoping to partner Chris Bedia in a front three.
Slater, meanwhile, could join Kasey Palmer and Oscar Zambrano in the engine room, while Alfie Jones and Sean McLoughlin will continue their partnership at centre-back.
Cardiff City will be without defender Joel Bagan, who is suspended following his red card against Leeds United, while Kion Etete, Isaak Davies, Ryotaro Tsunoda and Jesper Daland remain in the treatment room.
In Bagan's absence, Dimitrios Goutas should return to the starting line-up at the back, with Perry Ng or Will Fish deputising on the left of a back four, while Omer Riza could stick with the midfield partnership of Joe Ralls and Manolis Siopis if Aaron Ramsey remains sidelined.
Ahead of them, Chris Willock and Anwar El Ghazi will fight for a place in the starting line-up after Ollie Tanner, Rubin Colwill and Callum O'Dowda all started in support of Wilfried Kanga last time out.
Hull City possible starting lineup:
Pandur; Coyle, Jones, McLoughlin, Drameh; Slater, Zambrano, Palmer; Belloumi, Bedia, Millar
Cardiff City possible starting lineup:
Alnwick; Ng, Chambers, Goutas, Fish; Siopis, Ralls; El Ghazi, Willock, Colwill; Kanga
