With Mauricio Pochettino officially installed as the new U.S. men's national team manager, U.S. captain Christian Pulisic stressed the urgency of culture change in the team.
Following a 1-1 draw with New Zealand Tuesday, the U.S. are mired in a four-game winless streak on American soil, dating back to the Copa America - the longest streak in 13 years.
"Obviously difficult results for us, and it’s not a great feeling," Pulisic said to TNT. "But I think moving forward, it’s time to turn a page and we really have to pick it up a level - I mean everyone that’s a part of this. It feels pretty low right now but I know there’s better times ahead."
"Hopefully a culture that is willing to fight, that is willing to take risks, you know, win," Pulisic said when asked what he hopes will come out of Pochettino's arrival. "There’s a lot of things that need to change, just the mentality and the culture of the group. I think we have the quality, but hopefully that’s the first thing he’s going to want to change."
Pochettino was officially announced as manager Tuesday and is due to arrive in New York City Wednesday. It is expected he will be unveiled to the media by the end of the week.
From then on, the manager will work on a six-week plan with U.S. Soccer, which includes monitoring players both domestic and abroad and managing the team in Austin against Panama before taking on Mexico in a highly-anticipated matchup in Guadalajara on Oct. 15.
Pulisic's goal against New Zealand Tuesday ended his three-match USMNT run without a goal contribution, according to Opta Jack. He's only had a four-game streak without a goal contribution once.
