There is less than two months until the start of the summer transfer window and Manchester United are expected to dip into the market to strengthen their squad.
Ruben Amorim's side signed two players in January as Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu arrived from Arsenal and Lecce respectively, and United are anticipated to add further this summer. A new No.9 and a central midfielder appear to be at the top of the club's shopping list.
While Spanish outlet Fichajes claim Manchester United have 'taken a giant step' towards signing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
It's said the 29-year-old has become the club's 'top priority for strengthening' their goalkeeping department amid Andre Onana's recent performances. The latter has made a number of mistakes between the sticks in recent months.
The report also mentions that Maignan's future is 'still undecided' but 'everything points' to him being one of the key players to feature in the summer transfer window.
It's clear that Andre Onana has endured a downturn in form of recent late. The Cameroonian impressed at the back end of last season but has not been at his best in recent months, making a series of high-profile mistakes which has put his place as United's No.1 under serious threat.
United need to look at replacing Onana if they want to get back to the top of English football. Although he hasn't had experience of the Premier League himself, Maignan does seem like an ideal fit, on paper. The Frenchman has kept 11 clean sheets in 42 matches this season.
