The most successful team at the Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt, will be looking to make their 27th appearance at the tournament.
At the last edition in Côte d'Ivoire earlier this year, the Pharaohs failed to progress beyond the round of 16, losing to DR Congo on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
The seven-time champions, who last won the competition in 2010 and are led by record goalscorer Hossam Hassan, will be hoping to replicate the seamless qualifying campaign they enjoyed in the last edition, winning five and losing just one of their six matches.
Egypt were in action during the last international window in June, beating Burkina Faso 2-1 before drawing 1-1 with Guinea-Bissau in World Cup qualifying to take pole position in their group.
Hassan will be hoping his side can replicate their World Cup qualifying form when the AFCON qualifiers begin - the Pharaohs have won three and drawn one of their four World Cup qualifiers.
However, the potential of appearing at three successive AFCONs for the first time in history is too good for Cape Verde to pass up, making this a stern test for the hosts.
The Blue Sharks performed admirably at the last AFCON, reaching the quarter-finals where they lost to South Africa on penalties after a goalless draw, and their form has continued beyond the competition, winning three of their four games since then, including a 1-0 win over Libya in their last World Cup qualifier.
It will be a big test for Bubista's men, who have struggled for consistency away from home during the qualifiers, with their most recent away win coming against Eswatini, while they have lost to Cameroon and Togo.
Cape Verde will once again be relying on their disciplined defence, with the Blue Sharks rarely conceding goals - the four conceded away to Cameroon being the exception for the visitors, who have kept five clean sheets in their last six matches in all competitions.
Egypt possible starting lineup:
El Shenawy; Rabia, Fathi, Abdelmonem; Hany, Attia, Zizo, Ashour, Trezeguet; Mohamed, Salah
Cape Verde possible starting lineup:
Vozinha; Fernandes, Costa, Diney, Moreira; Andrade, Pina; Mendes, Monteiro, Cabral; Bebe
